Ind vs SL: Kumar Sangakkara's ton sinks Team India in Asia Cup

Sri Lanka achieved the total of 264 runs at the loss of eight wickets against Team India. An absolute cracker of a game today. Both the teams had almost equal opportunities to clinch this one. But, Team India somehow lost the plot right at the end under the leadership of young and inexperienced skipper Virat Kohli. Sri Lanka came out on top courtesy their experinced batting lineup and most importantly the run-machine Kumar Sangakkara. The southpaw notched up his 18th ODI hundred while anchoring the innings right till the end for his team. The Lankans thrived with the solid start from Kusal Perera - who notched up his well deserved fifty. Virat Kohli will be gutted with his team especially after coming close enough to seal an all-important win. The spinners worked the magic for Team India but the bowlers missed the trick right at the end when it mattered the most. As one would feel, another 20-odd runs would have surely changed the game for India. Today's win has taken Sri Lanka to the top of the table with eight points from two matches. Team India are now placed one point behind arch-rivals Pakistan at the third spot which will make their Sunday's clash all the more important.

Team India have posted a moderate total of 264 runs at the loss of nine wickets against Sri Lanka. Both India and Sri Lanka had their share of dominance in the match. The Lankans were disciplined at the start and the pressure resulted in Rohit Sharma's early dismissal. However, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan added 97 runs for the second wicket and began the counter-attack for India. Dhwan notched up his well deserved fifty and Kohli was on route to his when Ajantha Mendis bowled the delivery of the match to get rid of India's in-form captain. Kohli's dismissal brought the Lankans back in the game and the run-rate also dipped a little. Ajinkya Rahane and Dhawan added 45 runs for the third wicket but Sachithra Senanayake struck for the Lankans and the prosperous partnership was broken. With Dhawan still at crease, India were eyeing an imposing total but Mendis got into the act again to deny the Delhi southpaw his century. The inexperience in the Indian middle-order was at display as the Lankan spinners quickly ran through the batting lineup to shatter their dreams of a big total. Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin added some runs alongside Mohammed Shami final push that took India to 264 runs. It's a moderate total to defend and once again the young Indian skipper Virat Kohli will be tested against a strong side like Sri Lanka.

Mathews: "We will bowl first as the wicket eases out in the second innings. Mendis is coming in for Lakmal. The dew factor also might come into play and so we are bowling first and going with an extra spinner."
The two big teams, India and Sri Lanka lock horns in an all important match. Both teams have won their match and will be looking to go ahead of Pakistan in the table. Sri Lanka banked on the hundred from Thirimanne and the 5-fer from Malinga to pull off victory against Pakistan, where as India once again were led by a Kohli hundred in the run-chase against Bangladesh. Sri Lanka still depend heavily on Malinga with the ball in crucial moments and India on Kohli to get them the runs. It will be interesting to see what will happen to these two teams if they don't fire.
