Cabinet approves President`s rule in Andhra Pradesh

New Delhi: In its last Cabinet meet before the General Elections, the United Progressive Alliance on Friday approved imposition of President’s Rule in Andhra Pradesh.
The Cabinet, which met at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence, also decided to place the Andhra Pradesh Assembly in suspended animation.
Over a week after Parliament passed a bill for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the central government is yet to decide on the day when two states will formally come into being.
Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan had recommended for a spell of central rule after the resignation of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
The Assembly Elections in Andhra Pradesh are due along with the Lok Sabha Elections.
Carving out of Telangana has brought about several vexed issue related to Andhra Pradesh bifurcation, including that of the electoral and government machinery that need to be settled to ensure smooth and fair elections in two separate states.
Keeping the law and order under control in an emotive atmosphere, especially in Hyderabad and Seemandhra and Rayalaseema, is another crucial area that would need a longer period of cooling off, sources told PTI.
